Manager Nigel Adkins warned his players not to get carried away, as they roared to fourth place in League One with a 4-1 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion - their fourth win in succession.

Martyn Woolford opened the scoring, and Gary Hooper managed to hit the target just before the stroke of half-time to effectively kill off the game.

He netted two more goals early in the second half to seal a thoroughly deserved win for Scunthorpe.

The manager was a little bit disappointed that his team conceded to a goal from Jake Robinson late on, but hailed a fine performance in his post-match press conference.

"When you come away from home and score four goals you have to be delighted," said Adkins, speaking on Iron World. "Especially on the back of three victories before that.

"That's four on the spin now, so we're very pleased.

"We scored four goals, and I've said since the start of the season that we've got goals in this team.

"We've brought Martyn Woolford in now, who scored from the left-hand side, while Thommo (Garry Thompson) scored from the right at Walsall the other week.

"Gary Hooper has gone and scored a hat-trick, which I'm delighted with.

"He and Paul Hayes have got a good understanding now, as have Sam Togwell and Grant McCann in the middle of the park. There's competition for places all over now.

"We're disappointed we conceded a goal, but we've got the victory and that's what we were after."

He added that winger Kevan Hurst missed the game following a family bereavement, but will be back at the club on Monday.

Brighton boss Micky Adams may have seen his side receive a hammering, but was very complimentary of Scunthorpe after the game.

He said: "We've been beaten by a very good team. I said before the game and tried to get the message across to the players that they're a very good side.

"They're big and physical and for large parts of the game we were out-muscled by a bigger and stronger unit than ours. Individually we were second best all over the pitch.

"To go 2-0 down before half-time was disappointing, but then we need to get the next goal. We started the second half very brightly, we got players on the ball and we created some chances today.

"In terms of chances in the first few games at Withdean we've probably created more today than we have in the other games, which is disappointing. But we'll pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and get on with it.

"While we've lost a game heavily today I refuse to be downcast. It's a long season."
