TEAM NEWS - IRON v NOTTS COUNTY
Posted on: Tue 02 Sep 2008
Midfielder Martyn Woolford could make his first start for United in Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round clash against Notts County.
The former York City winger has made two substitute appearances for the club so far, and looks poised to be handed a chance against Ian McParland's Magpies.
There aren't going to be too many alterations though, as manager Nigel Adkins seeks to take his team all the way to Wembley in the competition.
Ian Morris might fancy his chances of starting in midfield, while left-back Michael Lea could also be handed a first start of the season.
The rules of the competition mean that six members of the starting line-up have to be regular starters from the season, but the Scunthorpe team selected is expected to be near enough full-strength anyway.
Izzy Iriekpen still misses out with a groin injury, so Cliff Byrne will continue as captain in his absence.
Kenny Milne, Andy Crosby and Joe Wilcox (all knee) also miss out.
The opposition are expected to shuffle their squad ahead of the game, with Michael Johnson, Kevin Pilkington and former Scunthorpe striker Jamie Forrester (who has picked up an illness over the weekend) likely to be rested.
Adam Nowland, Gavin Strachan and Stephen Hunt are all absent through injury.
