HAYES AND HOOPER LEAD THE LINE

Gary Hooper and Paul Hayes started up front for the Iron's season opener against Leeds United at Glanford Park.

Manager Nigel Adkins preferred the pair to Ben May and Jonathan Forte as Scunthorpe began their campaign against the title favourites.

Joe Murphy began the match in goal, with the defence consisting of Cliff Byrne, captain Izzy Iriekpen, Kenny Milne and Marcus Williams.

Garry Thompson, Ian Morris, Grant McCann and Kevan Hurst starting in midfield, while Hayes and Hooper led the line.

The substitutes' bench consisted of Matt Sparrow, Michael Lea, Jonathan Forte, Andrew Wright and Ben May.

Former Iron loan striker Jermaine Beckford started up front alongside Enoch Showunmi for Leeds.
