Iron striker Jonathan Forte says there has been more focus on playing attack-minded passing football during pre-season training.

The players returned to get ready for the forthcoming campaign more than three weeks ago and the former Sheffield United man - who turns 22 on Friday - explains manager Nigel Adkins is looking to introduce a fresh style of play this year as the club seek to bounce back into the Championship at the first attempt by winning promotion from League One.

"It's been a different pre-season to usual," Forte told Iron World. "We've concentrated more on playing football.

"We've tried a lot of things and obviously we won't be playing with the same tactics we used last season.

"We're probably one of the top teams in League One so we're looking to try and keep the ball and play football the way we know we can."

With Sheffield United visiting for Scunthorpe's penultimate pre-season friendly on Saturday, Forte - who has come off the bench in all three of the club's pre-season fixtures so far - will seek to put in a display similar to that he showed against the Blades at Bramall Lane last season, in what was arguably one his best displays in an Iron shirt.

However, he says there is no pressure to prove the Blades were wrong to let him leave.

"I just want to go out and play my own game," the Barbados international added.

"I haven't really got anything to prove because that's in the past now.

"Hopefully I can play well in every game - no matter who it is against."
