Former Iron goalkeeper Tom Evans has signed for Blue Square North outfit Alfreton Town.

The 31-year-old was released by York City at the end of last season, and becomes the latest player to join Nicky Law's charges.

The ex-Crystal Palace man, who still coaches United's U13's, made 291 appearances in nine years at Glanford Park before leaving two years ago.

Meanwhile, in another line of former player news, ex-Scunthorpe midfielder Neil MacKenzie will be on Channel Four's Countdown yet again on Friday afternoon after winning for a fourth successive day.

MacKenzie, 32, is the first professional footballer to appear on the show in its 25-year history.

Viewers can watch him try to retain his fine run from 3.25pm.
