Scunthorpe have rejected Burnley's improved second offer for striker Martin Paterson.

United turned down a £400,000 bid for this season's top goalscorer two weeks ago, and have now rebuffed their second approach.

The Clarets offered £450,000 up front for the 21-year-old, with £50,000 after 30 appearances and another £50,000 once he had played 60 games..

There would also have been a further instalment should the Lancashire club had won promotion to the Premiership.

Whether they come back with a third offer remains to be seen, but club officials reiterate that Paterson is not for sale.
