The Iron will face Southend United for the first time in more than two years next season following their exit from the League One play-offs.

Steve Tilson's side were thumped 5-1 at Doncaster Rovers on Friday in the second leg of their semi-final, after drawing 0-0 in the first, and are resigned to third-tier football next term.

James Coppinger hit a hat-trick, following strikes from Brian Stock and Adam Barrett (own goal), to send Rovers into an all-Yorkshire final against Leeds United.

The two teams will meet at Wembley a week on Sunday.

Nicky Bailey pulled a goal back for the Shrimpers, who will face the Iron twice next season, and for the first time since March 2006 when they ran out 3-0 winners at Roots Hall.

Earlier in that campaign, Scunthorpe had beaten them 1-0 at Glanford Park through Ian Baraclough's goal.
