Jamie Hales scored two goals as Scunthorpe reserves defeated their Barnsley counterparts 4-2 in an entertaining encounter at Glanford Park.
United went ahead through Andrew Wright from the penalty spot on 25 minutes after Tomi Ameobi was fouled in the penalty area, but the Tykes soon levelled with a penalty of their own after a handball by Wright. Their spot-kick, by Jacob Butterfield, went in off the left-hand post before rebounding across goal and going in.
Like the first team on Saturday though, the Iron scored three goals in the second half to seal the victory.
Firstly, though, Josh Lillis made a fine save on the edge of the penalty area ten minutes in, and the Tykes wasted the follow-up.
The Iron's reserve stopper then made another great block when one of the Tykes' forwards burst through.
Youth team striker Hales, who came on as a substitute for Alex Morfaw minutes earlier, went close with a shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area on 68 minutes.
Two minutes later the Tykes went ahead through Jack Watts, but Scunthorpe were keen to get back into it and Hales came close to scoring after being played through by Miles Smith.
Curtis Weston came close when he connected with a great cross from Jonathan Walton, who would superbly level the scores on 75 minutes.

The left-back surged forward from his own half, running through the defence, before firing home a great shot to make it 2-2.
Scunthorpe then regained the lead a minute later when Hales' shot from the right-hand side of the area beat Barnsley keeper Free.
Wright's effort from distance forced a corner, before Peter Winn headed just over.
United notched their fourth goal, when Hales fired home from in the area.
Tomi Ameobi had a decent chance after good work from Weston and Winn, and then Weston scored their fifth goal - which was wiped out for offside.
All in all, it was an action-packed game which the Iron deservedly won. There were some excellent performances and fabulous goals.
Their final match of the campaign comes at home to Sheffield Wednesday next Monday (7pm kick-off).
