Iron boss Nigel Adkins says his team are fired up, and ready to earn three vital points against Ipswich Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

There is all to play for at Glanford Park this weekend, as Jim Magilton brings his play-off chasing Town side to North Lincolnshire.

Despite the disappointment of last week's defeats at QPR and Wolves though, Adkins insists morale is still strong in the United camp.

They are six points adrift of safety, with seven matches left.

The manager has admitted that his team need to win their remaining home fixtures, and he knows they are capable of achieving it.

"We are looking at Saturday's game as one we have got to win," said Adkins, speaking in his pre-match press conference which is now playing on Iron World.

"We are confident we can get a result from it. The players' spirit is still high, the work ethic is still there, and it is a game which need to win.

"This time last season we would be six points away from staying up. As it is, the points total is going to move up.

"44 points would have kept us up last season - so that just shows how much more difficult this season has been, and how tight the division has been.

"We have played our part in that, because we have competed in every single game we have played.

"The games we have lost have been by one goal, which shows what a fantastic season this club has had, and what a remarkable effort the players have put in.

"We have got to keep the belief that we can still achieve 'Mission: Impossible', which is to maintain Championship status.

"We really, really believe we can. I believe we can - and we have got to keep going out there, pushing and driving ourselves.

"The lads have been magnificent - they have crossed that white line and given us everything.

"And against all the odds we are still fighting and still going for it."

Scunthorpe gave the Tractor Boys a scare earlier this season when they almost clinched a point with what was, arguably, one of their better performances of the campaign.

Martin Paterson gave United the lead at Portman Road before the hosts hit back to notch twice.

Paterson netted again just before half-time to level the scores. Afterwards, they had chances to win - and would have been the first side to be victorious at Portman Road all season at that stage - but the hosts clinched it with a last-gasp Tommy Miller free-kick.

"They are another side gunning for promotion to the Premiership," added the manager.

"They have had massive investment and are a very, very good side.

"We were very unfortunate when we went down to Portman Road. We took the game to them and nearly ended their fine home run at that time."
