WRIGHT WOULD FAVOUR NEW SYSTEM

Posted on: Sat 29 Aug 2009
Iron midfielder Josh Wright feels the 4-3-3-cum-4-5-1 formation adopted in the Carling Cup win over Swansea in midweek could be a success for United in the Championship this season.

Scunthorpe looked much more solid defensively playing that way, which was encouraging after losing their first two away league matches 4-0.

"You can look at the formation we played at Swansea as an attacking force as well as defensive," Wright told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"If you look at Arsenal, who are on fire at the moment, they play that formation even at home.

"It allows the front three to bomb forward and it also frees up the two in midfield to get forward because they have got that one behind them.

"I think it could really work for us, but it is not up to me to pick the team, that is up to the gaffer. I'm sure he will get that right and we will win more games."
