JONES 'GETTING THERE'

Posted on: Tue 18 Aug 2009
Iron defender Rob Jones feels he is 'getting there' in his bid to be at his best for the club's Championship campaign.

The 29-year-old ex-Hibernian captain is confident ahead of Tuesday's match with Middlesbrough that Scunthorpe can cause an upset against the Premier League old boys.

"That's three games that I have played now and my fitness and strength and sharpness is all getting there," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I'm getting there. I'm getting myself together, understanding this division, understanding the players I'm playing with, the teams I'm playing against and the pace of the division which is just relentless.

"You don't get a breather or a break so the fitness has to be there, which it's not quite at the moment but it will be. I'm just thoroughly enjoying myself at the moment.

"Our confidence is high following the win on Saturday as well, with a lot of positives to go forward with.

"Boro have only lost a couple of players in the summer so they will be strong, like every team in this division. I expect it to be a battle."
