Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed an interest in young Northern Ireland midfield man Michael O'Connor. The 21-year-old player looks to be on the verge of a move this summer from Crewe Alexandra, who have just been relegated to League Two.

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed he is interested in signing midfielder Michael O'Connor from League Two side Crewe. The highly-rated 21-year-old has endured a rocky time at Gresty Road since Gudjon Thordarson took over at the club, being sent out on loan to Lincoln and also training with Scottish side Hibernian.

Liam Trotter will make public his decision by midweek on whether to accept Ipswich Town's offer of a new contract with his current one running out tomorrow. Fellow Championship club Scunthorpe are waiting in the wings to offer Trotter what would effectively be a three-year-deal.
