Iron boss Nigel Adkins has dimissed talk linking him with the vacant manager's position at Huddersfield Town as pure speculation.

"I can control the controllables but I cannot control speculation and speculation is all this is," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I am just trying to focus on what will be a difficult FA Cup tie at Walsall on Saturday and looking forward to what will be my 100th game in charge of this club."

Adkins, whose side sit top of League One, is the favourite to be installed as Terriers boss after seeing his odds slip from 20/1 to 11/4.

Town chaiirman-elect Dean Hoyle is targeting a manager in the 'young and enthusiastic' mode, with reports suggesting an interest in Peterborough's Darren Ferguson too.

He said: "Nigel Adkins has done a tremendous job at Scunthorpe, surprising many people along the way.

"And we know from personal experience that Darren Ferguson has built an exceptional squad at Peterborough, backed by an ambitious chairman.

"They are both quality people.

"But the honest truth is that I have not approached anyone or spoken to anybody about the job here."
