Manager Nigel Adkins hopes striker Gary Hooper will return to training on Thursday.

The nine-goal leading marksman missed the match at home to Swindon on Saturday with a foot injury, and will sit out Tuesday's game with Rochdale in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

However, the boss is hopeful that he can return for the FA Cup first round clash at Walsall on Saturday.

"Gary has done some work running in the swimming pool, so he is well on the road to recovery," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I would like to think he will be back on the training ground with us on Thursday.

"Fortunately we have a group of players at this club now, where if someone is not quite right, then we can very happily play someone else."
