Iron captain Izzy Iriekpen says his club have surprised onlookers with their excellent start to the new season.

United sit top of League One after ten games, and the defender says it is great for Scunthorpe to defy the 'small club' tag once more.

"When we first started the season people didn't really see us as one of the favourites, maybe because we were one of the small clubs," Iriekpen told Sky Sports News.

"But we knew we could do something special this season and it does gel us together a bit more."

Meanwhile, reports suggest that United are interested in Hull City defender Wayne Brown.

The 31-year-old has been told he doesn't have a future with the Premier League newcomers, and the Hull Daily Mail report that Scunthorpe and Doncaster are monitoring the situation.
