Iron defender Cliff Byrne says it is fair to compare the current Scunthorpe squad to the one which won the League One title two seasons ago.

However, he feels the current squad needs to be judged on its own merits, rather than likened to past heroes.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "People will always compare you to what went before. It's up to the lads to live up to that expectation.

"We know what we're capable of and we strongly believe we can achieve something.

"A lot of those players have moved on and the gaffer and the staff have done ever so well to rejuvenate the squad again with the players we've added.

"We're our own set of players."
