Jonathan Forte will put club before country in a bid to help Scunthorpe United seal an immediate return to the Championship. The Iron striker represented Barbados during the summer, playing against the United States twice in a World Cup qualifier. Forte believes the Caribbean island have a bright future ahead of them - a future he wants to be part of.

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins admits he may be forced to bring in a new defender before the opening-day clash with Leeds on August 9. Centre-back Andy Crosby will miss the rest of pre-season with a knee injury, for which on Tuesday he saw the same specialist who is treating England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins could be poised for another swoop into the transfer market before the start of the new season. Injuries to goalkeeper Joe Murphy and centre back Andy Crosby have left him short of defensive cover - and he is also still looking for another defensive anchor man in midfield.Adkins could be looking back to Scotland again - from where he brought centre back Kenny Milne this summer. But with the new season now just 11 days away, he is keeping his thoughts to himself.

Celtic have been linked with a £300,000 move for Chelsea kid Jack Cork. The 19-year-old is thought to have impressed Parkhead scouts last season when he was on loan at Championship side Scunthorpe.
