Former club skipper Andy Crosby has been rocked by a recurrence of knee trouble just a fortnight before the start of the new season. The 35-year-old assistant player-boss might not be a first choice now - with Izzy Iriekpen and Kenny Milne set to form a new central defensive partnership.But Crosby will still have a key role to play on and off the field. He missed the final few games of last season in the Championship with tendonitis in the knee.

Scunthorpe United have completed the signing of former Manchester United youngster Michael Lea on a one-year contract. The 20-year-old left-back has impressed while on trial with the Iron and his deal includes the option for a second 12-month period.

Former Iron goal-ace Billy Sharp will be back at Glanford Park tomorrow with Sheffield United. The 22-year-old striker will be looking to make a big impact in the Championship for the Blades this season.He made a slow start to life back at Bramall Lane when he returned there last summer in a £2-million move from Scunthorpe. It was not until the middle of March that he netted his first league goal for the club.

Shola Ameobi is set to take on his kid brother in tomorrow's clash at the Keepmoat Stadium, as his younger sibling makes his Doncaster Rovers debut. Tomi Ameobi signed for the newly-promoted Championship side this week and the pair could start for their respective sides. Shola starred last week at Hartlepool after a frustrating summer on the transfer list, which has so far seen no takers come in for the wantaway striker. Yet his 19-year-old brother completed his move to Doncaster from Leeds after spending last season on loan at nearby Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe United hope midfield man Grant McCann will be able to play a part in tomorrow's home friendly against Sheffield United. The 24-year-old has missed the three pre-season games so far, at Brigg, Doncaster and Rotherham, because of a foot injury picked up in training.But he trained yesterday and the Iron will monitor him again to make sure there is no reaction.

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins has finally completed a deal to sign former Manchester United defender Michael Lea. Lea has been on trial with the club for the past month and has impressed Adkins during pre-season training and in the recent friendlies against Doncaster and Brigg Town.
