United have been linked with a bid for Southend striker Gary Hooper, report the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The 20-year-old forward, who notched 11 goals during a loan spell with Hereford towards the end of last season, has been transfer-listed by the Roots Hall club.

And it is reported that the Iron, Stockport and Hereford are interested in acquiring his services permanently.

The source said: "It's not really worked out for Hooper at Southend.

"But he had a great record at Hereford and so maybe it just isn't going to happen for him here. The change of scenery will maybe do him good."

The newspaper also says the Iron want to sign an unnamed defender who has played in Scotland.
