New Huddersfield Town defender Andy Butler has hit back at claims that United didn't do all they could to keep him.

The 24-year-old signed for the Terriers on Wednesday morning, penning a three-year deal, and said he accepted a more lucrative offer from the Terrier - like anyone would.

"I honestly think Scunthorpe did everything they could have done to keep me at the club," Butler told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I have so much respect for Nigel Adkins. He's always kept telling me how much he wanted me to stay and to be fair to the club, they did try their hardest to keep me.

"But it's like in any job, if someone comes along with more money and better opportunities, you're going to take it.

"That's what it came down to. I have to look after number one for the good of my career.

"It's always going to be tough for Scunthorpe because there are bigger clubs out there. That's the only problem they've got."
