Iron defensive pair Andy Butler and Marcus Williams should decide their futures during the coming week, says boss Nigel Adkins.

The duo are both out-of-contract with Butler, 24, available to leave on a Bosman free, but the club would receive money for Williams, 21, should he move on.

"I am ever the optimist," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"Andy knows what our position is. He knows what is on the table and he knows that we do now need a decision from him.

"Hopefully that will come in the early part of next week."

The boss also added that he has begun 'conversations' should he have to replace either player.
