A round-up of all Wednesday's news relating to the Iron in the media:

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has confirmed an interest in United frontman
Martin Paterson.

The Clarets boss, speaking to the Burnley Citizen, says he will do everything he can to try and bring the former Stoke City man to Turf Moor.

The Iron have said the player is not for sale, but the Lancashire club look poised to continue their interest.

"As you know, we always carry out our business in private," he explained.

"But I think it's fair to say that Scunthorpe have confirmed our intentions regarding Martin Paterson.

"We are trying our best to bring him to Burnley, and we want to agree a transfer fee with Scunthorpe.

"Basically, that's where we are at the moment. Whether we re-visit the situation, we'll have to wait and see.

"We won't ever reveal in public how much we offer for a player, but if Scunthorpe say it's not enough, then we can do one of two things.

"We either increase our offer, or we turn our attentions elsewhere."

He added: "He's a player I like. He's at a very good age and he's proved at this level that he can score goals.

"As I've said before, we are looking to try and bring younger players into the squad. Players that are coming in need to be of a decent age.

"That's no disrespect to the players that we've had before, but we're not in a situation where we are looking for a quick-fix; a seasoned pro. We are looking more towards the long-term."

Elsewhere, the Scunthorpe Telegraph carry an interview with Glanford Park legend Mark Lillis, who is current assistant to Sammy McIlroy at Morecambe.

United have been heavily linked with Shrimps winger Garry Thompson, and Lillis feels North Lincolnshire would be the right destination for the out-of-contract and in-demand wideman.

"If he does leave Morecambe, I'd like to see him move to Scunthorpe," he told the newspaper.

"If he's going to move to League One he needs to be playing regularly.

"I always say to players they have to make sure, if they are going to go, that they will be playing first-team football."

Elsewhere, newspapers in North Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Oxfordshire are filled with tributes to legendary Scunthorpe striker Nigel Cassidy, who sadly passed away on Monday morning at the age of 62.
