MIXED EMOTIONS

A week of mixed emotions on the pitch for me. Less than 5,000 braved the Peterborough match, although no-one can be too suprised that numbers dipped from the Leeds attendance.
Importantly, a win is a win, and Peterborough will be in the top 10 come the end of the season so they are no mugs. However, I have to say, the performance wasn't a great deal better than that at Walsall.
The best football so far was the first 45 minutes against Leeds and worryingly, we have got nowhere near that again so far.
Being fair, the team, particularly the defence, has had to be chopped and changed so much, there is a lack of continuity.
But, if we are to win promotion this season then consistently good performances are a pre-requisit.
They were tigerish, ran their hearts out and gave that bit of bite that perhaps put Posh off their stride.
Also aiding that no doubt was the return of Joe Murphy. Like I have previously said, no offence to Josh Lillis, but the Irishman is the best keeper in this league and its good to have him back.
Going forward we are stuttering somewhat, but at least Paul Hayes got his first goal of the season, while Gary Hooper had chances to add to his tally - although he was not on his own in terms of players who left their shooting boots at home at the weekend.
I am desperate for the wingers to show some good form, especially as the nameless and faceless few have had it in for certain players, almost before the ink was dry on their contracts.
However, both the starting wide players struggled at the weekend, although they know there are players now ready to fill their boots if things don't improve.
Competition for places is doubtless a good thing - and lets hope that this, along with the fillip of 3 points can give the team the kick up they back side they needed after such a poor start to the season.
The squad is strong, arguably stronger than it was last season, so expectations are naturally high, and lets be fair anything less than the play-offs will be a massive failure.
Watching football is an expensive doo, so the hard working Scunthorpe public will be baying for added value for their cash over the next weeks, in terms of entertainment and more points as we look for the Iron to climb the ladder.
Finger's crossed!
