There were a number of special events at Glanford Park on Sunday, December 6 when the Iron hosted Coventry City to mark Help For Heroes day.

350 tickets were handed out to local servicemen and their families, with150 taking part in a parade on the day.

The Scunthorpe and Coventry players walked out on to the pitch on Sunday through an Honour Guard provided by the Combined Services of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

The players were led out on to the Glanford Park pitch by the Scunthorpe and District Pipe Band.

The Pipe Band consisted of around 16 musicians, including pipers and drummers, all from the Scunthorpe area.

The Honour Guard was provided by members of the Navy Cadet Force, 147 Field Company REME and 119 Air Training Corps: all from the Scunthorpe area.

United also took to the field for the game with the Help For Heroes logo across their chests.

A number of players were sponsored for the day by businesses, with the proceeds going to Help For Heroes.

Those companies then got the shirt worn by the particular player.

Proceeds from the day, meanwhile, went towards the fundraising effort for the Climb4Heroes team, which is set to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro next year.

Climb4Heroes is a team of four North Lincolnshire men who are setting themselves an epic physical and mental challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for Help for Heroes in March 2010!

A charity that aims to provide help and support to our wounded British servicemen and women.

The highest freestanding mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro is also the highest mountain on the African continent at 5896m.
