NEW APPOINTMENTS AT UNITED

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

After looking closely at what a progressive business operating in the commercial sector needs, together with the need to deliver a better customer experience for sponsors, supporters, suppliers and the wider community as a whole, Scunthorpe United have today announced that 35 year old Jamie Hammond has been appointed as General Manager and Football Club Secretary. He will take up his appointment on the 29th July.

Steve Wharton said "Jamie's previous experience working for Disney in Paris and the United States, as well as more recently in the sports industry for Eddie Jordon, with specific emphasis on business management and development at General Management level, made him an ideal choice.

"His positive commercial approach coupled to a customer orientated attitude led us to believe that it was the right time to make this important operational change within the football club, especially as we look to develop our all round business in line with our five point plan announced in June".

The Board of Scunthorpe United were unanimous that this appointment was the right one, after meeting Mr Hammond; he is understood to be very excited about the future development plans for the football club and is looking forward to starting his new role in July.

Simon Elliott, who has been focusing his efforts within the commercial area since joining the Board in April, also announced the appointment of a full time commercial manager at the club.

"Michelle Harness has been rewarded for her excellent commitment to Scunthorpe United.  We have been sold out of hospitality boxes for some weeks, with a waiting list now.  All the perimeter advertising boards have been reconfirmed or sold, and such has been the demand for stadium advertising that the East stand will have additional, high level advertising, for the first time ever.

"Matchball and match sponsorship is well ahead of plan. In fact the statistics speak for themselves being 50% ahead of the same period in 2003," said Elliott

"These appointments are proof of our commitment to revitalise the football club to make it more professional, more customer oriented and a place that adds value to supporters, local businesses and the community as a whole. Both on and off the pitch we want people to really see and feel a difference at Glanford Park," said Steve Wharton.
