CHAIRMAN'S WEMBLEY STATEMENT

Posted on: Thu 05 Mar 2009
The 1-0 win at the Don Valley Stadium two Tuesdays ago was a magnificent achievement and gave us a 3-0 aggregate win in the Northern Area Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

This result made the Wembley Dream become a reality.

Nigel Adkins made his intentions regarding this competition very clear at the beginning of the season and full credit must go to him and his management team for the excellent way they have prepared for each game.

Of course, the players are the ones who ultimately have the responsibility to achieve the end result and almost every player in our squad has made a contribution over the six games we have played.

We have been extremely fortunate to play all bar the last game at home. We also rode our luck a little bit at times but in the end we were very worthy finalists.

Win or lose at Wembley, it will be a fantastic day for all our supporters but we must remain focused and do our best to bring home the Cup.

We will, I am sure, start as favourites, and God willing, we will put on yet another fine performance.

Last Saturday at Swindon just went to show how quickly success can change to failure. Football can be a very cruel game but that is possibly why we enjoy the successes when they come along.

The financial rewards for getting to Wembley are huge and somewhat of a relief in a season when we are still carrying Championship costs, albeit smaller than most Championship clubs and even one or two League One clubs.

We are still on course to have a real crack at automatic promotion. The magic of a Wembley appearance will not divert the players' resolve to secure one of the top two places in the league.

Top spot looks a foregone conclusion but even that is not out of reach. To all our supporters who follow us to Wembley, have a fantastic day, it should be one to cherish for a lifetime.

If we can add promotion to complete Nigel's double, what a season it would be.

Thank you all for your terrific support.
