YOUTHS PIPPED AT ROTHERHAM

8 September 2012

The Iron’s youth team were beaten 3-2 at Rotherham United on Saturday morning.

The hosts went ahead in the first minute, as they managed to keep possession from the kick-off and advanced down Scunthorpe’s right-hand side before getting the cross in and finishing too easily.

Hakeeb Adelakun soon scored a great equaliser for Scunthorpe though, intercepting the ball and drilling past the goalkeeper with his right foot from 30 yards.

United then had a couple of good chances. Firstly, Luke Hornsey went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and tried to lob him, but put it over the crossbar.

Then Jamie Wootton was played through and advanced to the edge of the box before shooting wide with the goalkeeper to beat.

Nevertheless, on 35 minutes, Scunthorpe went 2-1 up as Fabio Snow picked the ball up 20 yards outside the area and chipped the goalkeeper.

With a minute to go to half-time though, Rotherham levelled.

In the second half the Millers then scored the winning goal after a throw-in reached a Rotherham player who turned and fired in a shot.

“I was disappointed with our performance levels because we can play a lot better than what we did.

“We played at Dearne Valley, and the pitch was small and rock hard.

“Saying that, we got pipped 3-2 but the manner of the goals was disappointing.

“It was close but we’re capable of playing a lot better.”
