YOUTHS DRAW AT YORK

1 September 2012

The Iron's youth team drew 1-1 away at York City on Saturday morning.

Playing against a side who had won all three games so far, Scunthorpe got off to a decent start in the first half and enjoyed lots of possession, creating numerous chances.

However, they didn't make the breakthrough that their approach play deserved and, much against the run of play, fell behind to a dubious penalty on 78 minutes.

Lewis Trice was adjudged to have blocked a shot with his hand and the hosts scored from the resulting penalty.

The away team deservedly equalised in the 89th minute when Fabio Snow fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a good move.

Jamie Wootton had two late chances in added time when he was through with just the goalkeeper to beat but his efforts went the wrong side of the post.

"We had mixed feelings at the end as we felt we had done enough to win, especially in the first hour of the game," said youth development officer Tony Daws.
