WINTERTON IRON CELEBRATE MILESTONE

19 December 2014

The Winterton Iron supporters’ group will be celebrating a special milestone when they make the trip to the Coral Windows Stadium on Saturday.

“We are visiting our 50th ground since we started up in 2007,” says treasurer of the club Doug Parker.

“We are doing a special offer for members for this fixture to celebrate the occasion with discounted travel and we are looking forward to it.

“We haven’t played Bradford away since we formed, we have always been in different decisions.

“It is something everyone is excited about and it looks to be a nice ground. We might where silly Christmas hats or jumpers for the occasion!

“We go to around ten away games per season, but we cannot do some of the long distance ones because of the numbers.”

The group aim to encourage local fans to support their local team and Parker told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk of the club’s peak successes over the years.

“We have around 200 members but quite a few only joined in the 2009 season when we got to Wembley twice,” Doug states.

“Around 70/80 of our members are active and we go on coaches together to the away games with Scunthorpe fans from the area.”

He recalls some of the best trips made around England supporting the Claret and Blue in the past seven-and-a-half years.

“There’s been plenty of highlights,” he adds.

“Obviously the two Wembley trips, the Newcastle game, Man City and we have always enjoyed going to MK Dons because we always do well, do not concede and the seats are fantastic!

“We will be going to the Sheffield United game before the end of 2014 and we have a few more in mind for the rest of the season.”

A fan of 59 years, Parker is enjoying the club’s recent upturn in results under manager Mark Robins.

“He seems to have turned things around. There’s a more positive approach to things," he stated.

“I’ve been going to Scunthorpe games since 1955.

“There was a lapse when we had a family, but my dad started taking me and I have come ever since.

“I am currently a season ticket holder and looking forward to all the games over the festive period!”
