WILLIAMS COMPLETES MOVE

10 January 2014

The Iron have signed former Sheffield United defender Marcus Williams on a permanent contract after he was released by the Blades.

The 27-year-old, who played five times for the Iron during a one-month loan spell that ended following the 3-0 win over Rochdale on New Year’s Day, has signed a one-and-a-half-year deal.

Iron manager Russ Wilcox had been impressed with the performances of Williams, who has been used as a left-winger rather than a left-back.

This signals the start of Williams’ second permanent spell at Glanford Park, having spent seven years here previously between 2003 and 2010.

Since leaving United in the summer of 2010 Williams has played for Reading, however, he failed to cement his position in the squad.

This resulted in him joining Peterborough United and Sheffield United on loan before making the move to Bramall Lane permanent in January 2012.
