WE'VE GOT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

25 September 2015

Manager Mark Robins feels the Iron are not far away from where they should be.

Robins was speaking ahead of Saturday's visit to Southend, a game which he says is a great opportunity for United to get their first away victory of the season.

"We're looking for our first three away points. We keep saying the same things, we're not far away and it certainly can't keep dragging on," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"I'm confident that things will turn around, but we've got to make it happen. There's no better time to make it happen than this weekend.

"It's a difficult place to go and play at anytime, but for us it's a good opportunity to go and play without any fear and go to try and get the three points."

United slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rochdale last weekend but, despite coming away from Spotland empty-handed, Robins felt there wasn't much difference between the two sides.

However, he highlighted the fact that defensively things need to be much tighter going forward.

"We've done pretty well in the game on Saturday again, not really looked under any threat and all of a sudden we concede a goal," he said.

"We get back into the game and work hard to do that, then switch off from a cross. So we've got to get tighter."

Robins says United must match the hard-working nature of the hosts, if they are to enjoy success at Roots Hall on Saturday.

He also drew attention to the quality of the Southend playing squad, and that his side must be ready for the test that they will face.

"They work hard and we've got to try and match that work rate. I think they've got some good players in the side, with Mooney and Hunt up front," he added.

"They look like they're in decent form, and they've got some decent players. So we've got to be ready for that test."

He feels that there are a number of positives to take out of recent performances, but because of the frustrating start to the campaign, it's difficult to focus on those.

It's up to the players to go out and show their quality according to Robins and he also stated that the ugly side of the game must be carried out better than it has been recently.

He said: "There's a lot of positives to take, it's just difficult to focus on those at the moment. We've got to look at the other side of it and put that right.

"We've good players, I know I keep saying it saying it week in week out. But you've got to go out and let people know that you're a good player by doing the right things.

'We've got to change the mindset a little bit and stop thinking we're good players and do the ugly side of the game better."
