WE'RE NOT JUST GOING FOR THE DAY OUT

7 January 2016

Scunthorpe United captain Stephen Dawson feels it's up to everyone in the squad to give a good account of themselves when they take on Chelsea this Sunday.

Dawson insists despite being underdogs, it's vital the Iron go into the game at Stamford Bridge with a belief they can hurt the Premier League champions.

"We're drilling in what the manager wants from us, and we're going there to give a really good account of ourselves. We're not going just for a day out," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"On Saturday (against Wigan), I thought it was a really good, end-to-end game. We could have nicked it at the end, but it's out to win this weekend, and it's eleven versus eleven.

"We've got to go believing we can do something in the game. The manager's installing a game plan, we're working all week and hopefully we can do the club proud, ourselves and the fans. We've sold out our allocation, which is brilliant to see."

The Irishman also stated the significance of putting on a positive display for the United supporters, who quickly snapped up the 3,000 tickets which they were allocated.

"We know how much the fans will enjoy the day out, but it's a lot of money for them travelling down to London," he said.

"I've been down there, and I know the prices. We can only appreciate they were snapped in minutes, so it's great to see the buzz."

On a personal level, the skipper spoke once more of his delight to be back in first team action, after missing a large chunk of the campaign through injury.

He felt the festive period was a good one for the Iron, but also said it's time to make another push up the League One table too.

"I'm just over the moon to be back. The Wigan game has put to bed a lot of the demons I had in my head to bed at the start of the season," he said.

"For me especially, and the team as well, a win and two draws. It's a couple of points in the right direction and we'll hopefully kick on up the league table now."
