United notched their first win under Mark Robins with an impressive 2-1 away win at Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United.
Isaiah Osbourne had a big hand in the winning goal and spoke to The Iron Player on the “massive” win – one he hopes will be the “first of many to come”.“The performances are looking up and we look like a good team at the moment," he said.
“It’s impressive to limit them to just one goal. It shows just how good our defence is.
“Since the manager’s taken over we’ve been playing some good football.
“Their goal from our point of view was a bit sloppy but I think we’ve been more solid.
“The gaffer wants us to defend as well as play. He’s got us more solid at the back.”
Osbourne’s deflected strike put United back ahead after the Posh had equalised following a period of pressure from the hosts. The midfielder may not be credited with the goal but was more than happy with the full complement of points.
He stated: “It’s a great strike isn’t it? It wasn’t a deflection, it was going in!
“I’m just happy for the three points against a top six team to be honest, I felt we really deserved it and that bit of luck – everyone needs a bit of luck.
“We should never have lost that game against Notts County, they were in the top six as well.
“They got the luck last week and we got a bit this week.
“If you don’t shoot you don’t score. I want to claim it but I think it is going down as an own goal."
Confidence is high according to the former Blackpool man who now wants the squad to foster a winning mentality as United head to Forest Green in the FA Cup 1st Round next weekend.
“We’ve got to keep going. The boys are confident. We’re all up now," he said.
“My confidence is getting higher with each game I play.
“Every game you’ve got to want to win. That should be everyone’s mentality.
“I want to go out and win every single game.
“That’s what we’ve got to do – go and get through to the next round.”
