The Iron have agreed a deal to sign winger Andy Welsh.
He will pen a one-year contract with the option of an extra year in the club's favour.Welsh signs following his release by Carlisle United.
Born in Manchester, Welsh penned his first professional deal for nearby Stockport County in 2001.
He made a total of 85 appearances for the Hatters during three years at the club, scoring three times, and also scored two goals in six games in a brief loan spell at Macclesfield Town.
His successful stint at Edgeley Park earned him a move to North East giants Sunderland in 2004 for a fee of £15,000 however Welsh failed to hold down a consistent place in the side and played only 25 games for the club during the two and a half years he was there for, scoring twice.
He enjoyed two separate loan spells with Leicester throughout his time at the Stadium of Light, one at the back end of the 2005-06 season and the other midway through the 2006-07 campaign.
Welsh scored once in 18 games as a Foxes player before leaving parent club Sunderland to join Canadian outfit Toronto FC in 2007.
His stay across the Atlantic was short lived however and Welsh decided to return to England when he signed for Blackpool on a free transfer.
He made 24 appearances for the Seasiders but couldn’t hold down a regular starting slot and left the club at the end of the season.
Yeovil acquired his services ahead of the 2008-09 campaign in arguably the most successful part of his career to date. Welsh played 120 times for the Huish Park club and scored seven goals in a spell lasting just shy of three years.
Welsh’s career then saw him move to Carlisle in June 2011 on a free transfer and he went on to play 38 times for the Cumbrians before signing for United.
Despite being born in Manchester, Welsh qualifies to play for Scotland and has previously represented their under 19 side.
