WE WON'T STAND IN HIS WAY

21 June 2013

Iron boss Brian Laws has confirmed that the club have rejected a bid from Doncaster Rovers for last season's prized asset Mark Duffy.

The now-Championship side, who won the League One title in dramatic circumstances on the final day of last season, saw their offer for the 27-year-old instantly rejected by Laws.

"It was a derisory offer which we have turned down and I think they would have expected us to," Laws said.

"However, the interest is very much there.

"The ball is in their court, they know where we are coming from. There is still room for scope and movement and if nothing comes off there are still a number of other interested parties."

The United manager admitted that he would be pleasantly surprised if Duffy would still be with the Iron come the opening day of the season.

However, Laws confirmed he expects the ex-Morecambe midfielder to have moved on to pastures new before the start of the new season.

"We will have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks," he added.

"There are still six weeks to go until the start of the new season and in that time a lot of things can happen.

"From my point of view if he is still here I would have a quality player on my books here."

The Iron manager believes that now Doncaster have made a move for Duffy, that could spark more interest from a number of other clubs for the highly-rated midfielder.

He said: "Once it becomes public knowledge that Doncaster have made a move it will spark more interest.

"We know what the situation is and the player himself is also aware of the situation."

Laws added: "We are very open and we have said if the right figure comes along we will not stand in his way."
