WE NEED TO BE MORE WILY

23 February 2015

Iron manager Mark Robins believes his side came up against one of the best teams in League One as they fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Preston North End on Saturday.

The clash at Deepdale was settled by second half goals from Daniel Johnson and Paul Gallagher to give the high-flying Lilywhites their third straight win.

Robins had few complaints about the eventual outcome, and told The Iron Player: “That’s the nature of the game.

“With a 46-game season you know you’re going to come up against an opponent who have probably been slightly better than you on the day. They’re a good side with a good squad.

“On paper they’ve probably got the strongest squad in the division. They’re always up and around it, and they should be as well.

“It’s a big club with good players who are doing well at that end of the table.”

Among the Preston squad are a number of players with Premier League pedigree, including strikers Kevin Davies and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

That strength in depth showed according to Robins, who added: “They have a real wealth of talent and experience at this level and higher.

“We can count ourselves not happy with the way the goals went in. They went in too easily, and I felt they were a bit more professionally wily than we were.

“We’ve got to learn that. If we can take something from the game it’s how to win a game that’s very tight.”
