WE GAVE THEM HALF A GAME

3 May 2015

The Iron ended the season with a disappointing 5-2 defeat against local rivals Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Manager Mark Robins was less than impressed with what he called “half a performance”, mainly for the sake of the supporters – over 1600 travelled to see the Iron off.

He stated: “It is disappointing, of course it’s disappointing. We’ve lost to our local rivals and we’ve brought more than 1500 supporters so that’s the disappointment.

“You do things for the supporters and because they make it worthwhile. We’ve given them half a game.

“I wish I could pay the players half their wages this week because they’ve just given half a game.

“They did alright second half but the game was dead and buried really.”

Robins was keen to view the season as a whole and as objectives met, rather than focusing down on just the final result of the campaign. With the 2014-15 season at a closed, attentions are now turned to capitalising on the club’s off-field developments as work is due to begin on the new stadium and training facilities in the coming months.

He said: “It’s the last game of the season and we’ve actually achieved our objectives. You look at some of the results today – Walsall being beaten 8-2.

“It’s as if the job’s been done and “thank goodness for that” but you can’t do that and I think it’s really important to take stock of the season as a whole. I think we’ve done what we were brought in to do.

“There’s a real opportunity to build something now with a new stadium and a new training facility on the horizon. It’s not just a pipe dream it’s tangible for everybody.”
