WE DON'T WANT TO STAND STILL

10 June 2013

Iron manager Brian Laws has expressed his delight at the club's early signings in the transfer window.

Scunthorpe have already brought in Andy Dawson and Chris Iwelumo, as well as Gainsborough Trinity duo Terry Hawkridge and Luke Waterfall.

However, Laws admitted that he was still on the lookout for more faces to help bolster his squad ahead of the new season.

"We're in a corner where it's not pleasant financially. We're not in a position where we can offer great deals," Laws told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.

"What we can offer them is honesty and a club that don't want to stand still.

"They want to bounce back, and we're going to try and bounce back. But I think more importantly they want to be with a group of people that they enjoy working with."

Dawson returns to the club after ten years with Hull City while Iwelumo played for Laws during their time together at Burnley.

Coupled with Michael Collins signing a new deal, United's boss believes their qualities and experience will benefit the rest of the squad over the forthcoming campaign.

"It's been great and refreshing to see the likes of Andy Dawson and big Chris coming in," said Laws.

"But I think that the fact we've worked with them has helped the matter because they know how we work and I think I can get the best out of them as well.

"It's helped the matter, no question about it, but I'm delighted to say that because I thought we'd be dragging our heels.

"To get the acquisitions in and with Collins signing shows we mean business in terms of bringing in good quality - we're not just taking anything."
