WANTS TO PUSH NEXT SEASON

5 May 2015

Iron winger Hakeeb Adelakun was slightly underwhelmed following his side’s final day defeat at Doncaster Rovers.

In a game that was everything-but-bland, Scunthorpe ultimately went down 5-2 at their Yorkshire rivals.

Adelakun was Scunthorpe’s second scorer, as his cross drifted through a crowd of players and ghosted in, but that didn’t completely transform his feelings about the match overall.

“It was a bad end to the season," he confessed to The Iron Player.

“Especially on the last day.”

The Iron were 3-0 down in the match by half-time, and therefore gave themselves a metaphorical Kilimanjaro to climb in the second-half.

Overall, however, Hakeeb put the ultimate result down to his team’s slow start and a slight air of complacency.

“We started slowly, I think it’s because we’d already secured survival,” he analysed.

“I think we took our foot off the gas a bit.”

In the second period, United did come out of the traps with a lot more attacking impetus about them.

They soon reduced the arrears through a Kevin van Veen goal, but Rovers then scored against the run-of-play through Nathan Tyson, who then duly added another to complete his hat-trick.

“We started the second half well," he said,

“We got a lot of crosses into the box. I think we need to take more advantage of that next season,” the player admitted.

On a lighter note, he also dismissed any idea that another United player might have got a touch on the ball in the scoring of his goal.

“I’m claiming the goal, and I’d like us to push for the play-offs next season,” he concluded.
