Mark Robins believes that despite believing his side were unlucky not to emerge from the game away at Fleetwood with three points.
Goals from Gary McSheffrey and George Evans earned the Iron a point during the highly competitive draw at Highbury on Tuesday evening, and Robins remarked that his players produced both impressive and attractive football consistently during the game.Speaking to The Iron Player, he said: “I thought it was a good advert for the SkyBet League One.
“I thought there was some good football played and we created a lot of chances away from home.
“I thought we played some really good football in difficult conditions, the pitch was good which allowed for a decent passing game and both teams did their own sets of supporter’s justice.
“It was disappointing that we couldn’t find that extra little bit to get the three points.”
The hosts took the lead inside three minutes through a Jamie Proctor header, with the equaliser from McSheffrey coming on the stroke of half time. Robins remains proud of the sides focus and determination to draw level after the early set-back, and how they went about their play during the periods when they were behind in the game.
Robins stated: “You’ve always got to show character when you go a goal down in the manner in which we did go a goal down.”
“It wasn’t a free-kick in the first place, as Osbourne has won the ball fair and square on the far side and for whatever reason a free-kick has been given, so that shouldn’t have been given really.
“It has been given, but we need to get better at defending it and like I said the difficult conditions means the ball moves in the air and they’re 1-0 up inside five minutes or so.
“It was a disappointing start to the game then you have to dig in, but we didn’t really struggle in any way, shape or form. I thought we stepped up and went through some decent passages of play and moved really well; and I thought we played some terrific stuff.”
The goals from McSheffrey and Evans can arguably classed as speculative, but undoubtedly be classed as superb with both efforts fine strikes that would post highly on the goal of the season charts, with Robins concurring with those superlatives.
On the goals, Robins said: “Both of the goals were fantastic.
“The second one came from Osbourne winning the ball and squaring to George who has hit it first time from 25-yards and it was a goal that was deserved off us getting a point from the game.
“McSheffrey has done well, got on the run, got it on to his right foot and scored a stunner. Two really top goals and it’s given the supporters a boost, and a point that getting away from home is a good sign; we’ve got to take that.”
The points were shared in the end with both clubs taking home one each on the night, but Robins believes it could have been so much more than just one if things had have gone slightly differently.
Robins added: “I think a point was the least that we deserved.
“I think that there was a lot of good play from us and I thought we were little unfortunate not to get level earlier than we did, such is the nature of the game.
“At the moment it feels like we half do something and the ball ends up in the back of our net and that came with their second goal.
“It was very reminiscent of the goal we conceded at Bradford City from earlier on in the season. It was disappointing and a blow, but again we kept believing that we could get another opportunity and thankfully it came.
“There were one or two other opportunities we had too that came our way, and if I’m honest I thought we were the better of the two sides and looked the more likely to go on and win the game.”
Marcus Williams was again absent from the match day squad again on Tuesday night having not featured since leaving the pitch at home to Barnsley with a back injury, and Robins clarified his situation in his post-match comments.
“Marcus should be okay, we thought he might have been able today but he’s taken a knock” said Robins.
“He’s been out for a week now as it was last Tuesday against Barnsley, but hopefully he’ll be ready for Saturday.”
