The Iron's Under-18 side were 1-0 winners at Burton Albion on Saturday.
Jack Dyche scored a penalty on 60 minutes to seal victory for a very young United academy side.He was brought down trying to round the goalkeeper and slotted home the subsequent set-piece.
"It was a really good game. Burton have been competitive all season and made it really tough for us," said academy manager Tony Daws.
"It was end-to-end and there was a lot of entertainment in it.
"I was pleased with our boys because they had overcome the disappointment of losing for the first time in a long time the week before.
"It was good to see that psychologically we were able to bounce back. That loss against Hartlepool was our first defeat since January.
"We had a really young side out and I was really pleased with the way the team played.
"We only had Jack Dyche and Ben Ledger as second years, while the rest were first years or Under-16s. We had two Under-15s as well - it was a very young team.
"Both sides had chances in an even game between two well-matched teams."
IRON TEAM: Ledger, McMichael, Butroid, Sackey, Train, Trialist A, Hornshaw, Sithole, Dean-Atkinson, Dyche, Ablett.
IRON SUBS: Bartholomew, Parker, Noon, Knox.
The Under-18 side play their final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers on Thursday night at Appleby-Frodingham (6.30pm kick-off).
"They are always tough games against Doncaster and this will be no different, so we look forward to that," added Daws.
"It's been a really good season. We have a chance to finish second in the league.
"The bottom line is that two boys have been handed professional contracts so that means it's been a very good season."
