TRIO SHOULD FACE OWLS

10 July 2013

Manager Brian Laws is confident Chris Iwelumo, Andy Welsh and Etienne Esajas will be fit to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The trio missed the away friendly win over Gainsborough Trinity as a precaution, but they look set to play a part against the Owls at the weekend.

It will give home fans to the first chance to see summer additions Iwelumo and Welsh on home soil, while Esajas will be attempting to build on his hat-trick display at Brigg and earn a contract through performing well against his former club.

"We had Saturday in mind," Laws told The Iron Player.

"We're facing a stronger side (Sheffield Wednesday). It's a 90-minute football.

"They are important players for us.

"All three will be available on Saturday and we can then start formulating our plans for on the park as these are the games that are more realistic barometers.

"Andy Welsh got a kick on the hip in Saturday's game at Brigg.

"So I felt a few more days (from playing) wouldn't do him any more harm.

"Chris hasn't been feeling that great, so I didn't want to put him in the side in these temperatures when he's only just starting to recover.

"We have to be very mindful of the medical side of things but we're hopeful he'll be alright for Saturday's game.

"He's been a bit low with fatigue over the last week but we don't want to risk him in this heat.

"When your body system is down, you really feel it in this heat.

"The medical team are doing their job and protecting our players.

"Etienne has just been feeling a little bit of fatigue but he knows the importance of putting in the performances to get himself a contract.

"He will be looking to put in a decent performance on Saturday to show everybody what he's about."
