TRIALIST DUO WILL FEATURE AT BRIGG

5 July 2013

Just a week since the players returned to training and their opening match of pre-season is almost upon us.

The Iron travel to Brigg on Saturday and the United manager Brian Laws has confirmed that he will be fielding two separate sides as it is the first warm-up game of the new season.

"We will still be fielding a strong side for sure," Laws told The Iron Player.

"We will be looking at fielding two teams as it is the very first game of the new season. I will be looking for every player to be playing around 45-60 minutes each.

"There are trialists that we will be looking at during the game at Brigg as well.

"There will be a couple that are taking part. Etiënne Esajas will definitely take part along with Sean McAllister (both formerly with Laws at Sheffield Wednesday)."

He added: "They are two good players and it will be good to see how those two fit in with the set up that we have here."

Despite only re-joining the club officially on Thursday morning midfielder Matt Sparrow is ready to jump straight into the first team, according to Laws.

The 31-year-old, who previously played for the Iron between 1999 and 2010, has passed all his fitness tests and it not far off the players who returned to action a week before him.

Laws said: "Matt is a very fit lad and he has done very well to look after himself over the summer.

"He did some fitness testing earlier and Matt is not too far behind any of the other players.

"I do not have any issues with that and I think Matt is ready to get 45 minutes - at least - under his belt.

"He will certainly take part on Saturday."
