Mark Robins said he has no targets currently on his radar, however if the right opportunity to improve the side for the future came about, he would take it.
Robins told The Iron Player: “I keep working and looking at things, but no we aren’t looking at anyone at the moment."I’m not scattered, I know what I want, it’s just the availability at this stage. If we can do something then we’ll do it if it can help improve us for the longer term.
"We’ve had the short term fixes with the loan signings, we’re going to look to the medium and longer term eventually in the summer, but who knows, we’ll keep working and see where that takes us."
In the last couple of days, three players have left the club in the form of Curtis Bateson, Luke Waterfall and Callum Howe, and Robins made it clear the squad did need a bit of trimming, but remaining in the FA Cup wasn’t a factor before sanctioning such departures.
Robins added: “It’s not because we’re out of the FA Cup, if we were still in it we would have had more of the players at our disposal for this game, but it wasn’t to be, so I’m looking at the here and now but also for the future.
"We’ve got to make sure things are right, keep ourselves light. For us it’s not really about the transfer window closing on February 2, it opens again on February 9 (loan window), so I think everybody understands that at this level, and as this stage of the season, whoever we bring in has got to make a difference to the team.
"If I can do something in a longer term capacity then I’ll look to do that if we can possibly do it, but also I’ve got to thin the squad down, some players will leave, Curtis Bateson has gone to North Ferriby, Luke Waterfall has joined Wrexham and Callum Howe has been loaned to Alfreton.
"If a player leaves, they’ll be fringe players, however we don’t want to leave ourselves light.”
Finally, talking about David Mirfin, Robins believes the centre-half desperately needs some minutes under his belt, and with competition high in the squad, and very few reserve games available at the moment, the club will look out for potential opportunities for the short term future of the defender. However, there is nothing on the immediate horizon for Sheffield-born centre-back.
Robins said: “There’s nothing at the moment for David, we’ve not had any enquires or anything as of yet.
"I’m very surprised about that in all fairness because he’s a stalwart. He’s been out for a little while but he’s been back training for a while now, and he’s ready to go.
"He needs some games, and obviously with the lack of opportunities in terms of reserve games he hasn’t had that practice. For us to throw him in at this time is difficult, however I know his capabilities, it’s the same as with Niall Canavan.
"We know what they are both capable of doing, and we are looking to get them both fully fit and get them playing again.
"David’s under contract, he has another year on his deal after this season.
"He’s missed games because of an injury that’s being looked after. His injury has got to be managed, and moving forward, I wouldn’t write anybody off at the moment, if they can do me a job, then we’ll certainly look at it, and they’ve got to force their way in to the side, and keep their position in the side once they’re in there.”
