THE WAY WE ARE PLAYING IS FOR THEM

28 July 2015

Mark Robins paid tribute to the performance of his side after Friday’s 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers at Glanford Park.

The Iron manager says he is pleased with the positive style of play he has seen during this summer’s pre-season friendlies and that it is all geared towards making the Scunthorpe United fans happy with their team.

He said: “The way we are playing is for them! If we are enjoying watching it then the supporters are bound to enjoy watching it too. It’s been a hard graft this summer but it’s all worth it because it’s for the supporters coming to the game, watching us play and going home happy.

“We’ve got some really good players coming through the door and we’ve just added Darius Henderson to the mix and that gives us a different dimension for our attacking play.

"I’ve got to be thankful to the chairman for the help that he has given us so far and we’ve got to try our best with the resources we’ve got at our disposal.”

Irishman Paddy Madden continued his scoring form on Friday evening to secure a draw with Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers as he cancelled out Josh Vela’s early strike.

With less than two weeks to go before the season opener away at Burton Albion, Mark Robins believes the performance from his players against Bolton shows that they are starting to get to know each other and gel together as a squad.

He added: “It takes quite a bit of time and work to get the players to gel and understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses but they have done really well.

"That’s why it was important last week to have a good week in Spain with them living together and there were some really positive signs again.

“I’m looking for competition for places all over the pitch. The players pick the team with their performances and I have just got to see who is doing the best in the areas on the pitch.

"If they work hard and put the work in then they will always be in contention for a game.

"I’m looking for a strong squad and the players are going to be working really hard to try and nail down a place for themselves on a weekly basis.”

Scunthorpe United’s opening League One fixture is on August 8 at Burton Albion and the first game of the new season at Glanford Park is on Tuesday 11 in the Capital One Cup against Barnsley.
