THE INCENTIVE IS THERE

12 December 2014

Iron manager Mark Robins has expressed his desire to secure three points against Crewe Alexandra this Saturday and see the club climb out of the relegation places.

The weekend’s fixture will be the first time United have contested a League One match at Glanford Park for seven weeks, since being narrowly beaten by Notts County in late October.

But with the chance to leap out of the divisional drop zone, Robins admits the team have every incentive to pick up the victory.

He told The Iron Player: “The incentive going into Saturday is to pick up three points and get out of the bottom four.

“We’ve got to maintain the unbeaten form that we’ve been showing recently.

“If we can continue that then great but even if we can’t then we can get back on and there’s a lot of games coming up.

“The games come thick and fast over the Christmas period and I’m just looking for a good performance level.

“If we can get the three points then we could be out of the bottom four so there’s a big incentive there.”

Crewe are currently bottom of the league and without a win for almost two months, when Steve Davis’ side saw off promotion hopefuls Peterborough United 1-0 at Gresty Road.

But Robins is certainly wary of the threat Saturday’s visitors pose and acknowledges that they too will be hunting for a three point haul.

“Crewe always try to play football. I’ve been to see them a couple of times and Steve Davis has done a terrific job there,” he added.

“They’ll be hoping to come here and take the three points and lift themselves off the bottom of the league.

“We’re on the up, there’s no doubt, and we’ve got to try and maintain the momentum we’re building.”
