THE DYNAMICS ARE CHANGING

5 July 2013

Iron manager Brian Laws has welcomed their two-day trip to Northumberland earlier this week as a success.

The United squad travelled to Staley Hall for a couple of days where they were able to bond with the rest of the squad as well as participate in several training sessions ahead of their first pre-season match at Brigg on Saturday.

"We had a small break which was more for a bonding session more than anything else," Laws told The Iron Player.

"We had the opportunity to get five sessions in whilst we were there and we did. They looked after us tremendously well, there was a nice football pitch there.

"It was intended for the players to bond a lot together but the quality of the training that we did was brilliant as well."

Since their return from Northumberland the players have gone on to excel and this is something that has impressed Laws and his coaching staff.

"We are six days into our training schedule and I have to say that all our players are in really good condition which I am pleased with," he added.

"They are a good bunch of lads and things are going very well at this moment in time. The weather has stuck with us as well so it is nice for us to do it in conditions like these."

The Iron boss continued: "The players appreciated it. It was short but sweet. It was a necessity and I felt it would help us significantly this season."

Laws believes all the new players have settled in well, creating a unified camp.

This is something that he believes will stand the Iron in with a good chance of returning to League One at the first time of asking.

The two-day trip away has seen the players develop an understanding for who everyone one is and it has also allowed the characters in the camp the chance to shine.

Laws said: "It is important that they all get to know each other and I believe we have a good bunch of players here that are going to be able to change the dynamics of the club.

"There are comedians in there, which is good, but we also need that serious side and we have a good group of players forming.

"Changing the dynamics of the dressing room was one of the key things that we were looking at."

The Iron boss was unsure about what would lie in wait for him over the summer months as last season's relegation implicated on the funds that he had available to him.

Now that Laws is working to a known budget he can plan for the season ahead and he is able to use the money wisely to strengthen the squad.

"We were concerned by the fact that the budget was going to be cut dramatically," he said.

"When you are talking nearly 40 percent of your budget going it is then difficult to look forward and plan ahead.

"We wanted to try and get our squad formulated as quick as we could have and due to the fact that the finances were very tight we thought it might take us a little longer.

"The good thing is that we are well ahead of schedule and we now have a lot of players that we thought we would have to wait for.

He added: "I am delighted with that and it shows you that they are in a good frame of mind.

"The players that we have brought here have come in for the right reasons and they want to be part of some success."
