SHOWING CHARACTER

15 September 2014

After getting a week a away to regenerate my batteries, I come back to a couple of poor results and a very disappointing performance in the second half at Chesterfield.

It is sometimes difficult to know what to say at times and I must admit, this caught me out.

To play poorly is an excuse, but to play and lose with a whimper, is not acceptable.

These are professional players and Management and this is what they do for a living and as a club, we pay for a certain standard from them. A sweeping statement, but one where the “Collective” take the responsibility and the individuals need to step up to the plate, not in a couple of weeks, but now!

I haven't spent money and time to improve the club to take a step back now, it will not happen, I will not let it happen. Injuries have been rife, but I believe this group of players are good enough to do the job required of them. They are excellent players who have shown they can do it, supported by a Management team who give nothing less than 100%. If it’s a blip, prove it!

Two home games in front of fans who will cheer their hearts out for them, spend good money to watch them and demand no less than 100% commitment and heart, here is an opportunity to get some pride back.

The club sees itself yet again mourning a long time servant in Rex, our vice chairman and tomorrow we will offer a minutes silence before the game, as a mark of respect. To me that is the last bit of silence I want to hear for the duration of the night, as you the fans, have proved to be noisier and more supportive during this season's games, we need that now more than ever and I am certain your players will rise to the occasion.

In a nutshell, lets get our finger out and do the job we are here to do, impress the fans, get the 3 points and move on with a bit of pride.

Peter Swann
Chairman
