SEAN IS IMPROVING

16 April 2014

Iron boss Russ Wilcox believes the trip to face Morecambe at the Globe Arena on Good Friday may come too early for an ‘improving’ Sean McAllister.

The popular midfielder suffered a suspected collarbone injury in the 0-0 home draw with Wycombe Wanders at the end of January, and has since been forced to adopt a watching brief from the side-lines.

The 26-year-old’s absence has been offset by the return of previously exported loanee Michael Collins, and Wilcox told The Iron Player: “He’s not too bad, and is improving all the time, which we expected.

“We’re not sure if he’ll be available for any of the weekend games, but we’ll just have to see. He’s improving day by day."

One player more certain to miss out on the contest in Lancashire is Gary McSheffrey, who broke down with a hamstring injury in the same game as his colleague.

Much like his team-mate, McSheffrey is making progress, but Wilcox added: “This weekend is a no-no.

“We have to make sure they prepare properly, and get back to full fitness as soon as they possibly can. You don’t know what’s around the corner, and there’s no guarantees we’re going to get a top-three spot at the moment.

“We’ve got to make sure they’re ready and available if we don’t. We’ll see where they are towards the end of the week."
