Iron manager Mark Robins has reiterated the need to bounce back following Saturday afternoon’s defeat against Peterborough United.
Conor Washington’s hat-trick and a penalty from Michael Bostwick secured a 4-0 victory and the points for Posh in difficult conditions as the rain poured down heavily in the second period.Following the match, Robins told The Iron PlayerHD: “We’ve conceded four goals at home without reply and it’s just not good enough.
“The only way to respond is positively and the only way we can do that is by having a reaction next week.
“There weren’t too many things wrong but organisationally we weren’t great at all.
“We need to start taking responsibility when things are tough, organise better, talk better.
“When the ball is there to be won we need to go and win it, do it properly and towards the end of the game we started to do that but it was too late and we conceded some soft goals.”
It’s now two defeats in a row on home turf for Scunthorpe, after last week’s reverse against Bradford City.
That was followed by a gritty win away at Bury in midweek and Robins stated that consistency is something that team need to improve on.
“You’ve got to have a consistent squad. There’s been too many off days and it’s a mental thing,” he continued.
“We’ve got to learn how to deal with things better.
“It’s tough but certainly isn’t beyond the realms of sorting out.
“We need to be better, we need to bounce back and I know we will – that’s the frustrating thing but we’ve got to get back on the training field as soon as we can and build for next week.
“We’ve got an FA Cup tie so it’s a bit of a breather from the league and we’ll try and get through into the next round.
“Bish (Neal Bishop) picked up his fifth booking so we’ll be without him but we’ll be fully focused on trying to get ourselves through.”
Robins concluded by speaking of his disappointment at not being able to bring another body in before the emergency loan window closed, saying: “It wasn’t a choice not to bring anybody in but we tried and there’s not a lot you can do.
“We’ve got some good players and we have belief in our players.
“They need to have a bit more belief in themselves and bounce back from this defeat next week.”
